- Choose smaller boxes for heavy items like books.
- Reserve larger boxes for lighter items.
- Strengthen the bottom of boxes with at least one strip of packing tape.
- Pack items tightly to prevent shifting during transport or storage.
- Use wide packing tape to securely seal all boxes.
- Store records and CDs vertically to avoid warping—never stack them flat!
- Place heavier items at the bottom of each box, with lighter items on top.
- Use plastic containers with tight fitting lids for the best possible protection in lieu of cardboard.
- Stack items in a manner that allows access to the rear of the unit at all times for ease of seeing and reaching all items.

- Wrap items in bubble wrap and stack them in a large box filled with bubble wrap or packing peanuts.
- Take off light bulbs, harps, and lampshades from lamps.
- For artwork and mirrors, wrap them in paper and cover them with cardboard for extra protection.
- Individually wrap each fragile item with bubble wrap and secure it with packing tape.
- Arrange the wrapped items in a sturdy plastic container with a tight fitting lid, using large packing peanuts or crumpled paper for cushioning between them.
- Add a final layer of peanuts or crumpled paper on top, then seal and label the box.
